I love the line 'correctly garbed, one feels one can conquer anything'. This article is a charming demonstration of how little, in some ways, has changed over the past century or so. Even nearly 100 years later, most of my women riding friends started out in their broter's borrowed gear, or their Dad's old jacket. Although I've never yet heard any of my friends worry about 'disfiguring stains of roadgrime on their silk stockings', since our generation may be able to afford motorcycles and gasoline, but not silk stockings. Safety equipment in every sport was less popular in the 1920's, and considerations of warmth and comfort were foremost in selecting suitable gear. Now we are fortunate to have riding gear choices with far more safety features as well as warmth and comfort.
